A FUNERAL director who worked for The Co-operative Funeralcare in Doncaster has achieved a professional qualification to recognise the work he does in caring for the bereaved.

Mark Whitehurst, aged 49, has achieved a B-Tec Professional Diploma in Funeral Directing after studying over a two year period.

Mark joined the Co-op funeral home in Spring Gardens five years ago as a funeral service worker, following a career as a transport supervisor.

He progressed within the industry and became a funeral director in 2009, before transferring to the funeral home in Barnsley. The qualification covers all aspects of the role including caring for the deceased, funeral law, communicating with clients and arranging a funeral.
