Tram-trains linking Sheffield and Rotherham may be a couple of years away - but the scheme has already received an award.
The £60 million pilot scheme, which will operate from 2016, has been given a Highly Commended accolade at the Railway Industry Innovation Awards.
Ben Still, South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive’s interim director general, said: “I am delighted that SYPTE’s hard work, together with our project partners, has been recognised at the Railway Industry Innovation Awards.
“This award is testament to the huge efforts made by partners to ensure tram-trains will bring long lasting benefits to our region by improving customer journeys and helping to grow our economy. We are excited to be involved in this scheme.”
