Residents are urged to be ‘sensible’ when using Sheffield’s five household waste recycling centres today.

All the centres will be open from 10am until 6pm.

But users are being reminded not to queue outside the centres before they open because of concerns about traffic congestion.

Veolia Environmental Services general manager Gavin Waite said: “Our centres are always popular and so we would encourage the users of the sites to be sensible about queuing on the road so as not to block the road for other traffic.

“We have over 160 local recycling sites located all over the city and rather than queuing at a recycling centre you might want to take recyclables such as paper, cardboard, plastics, glass, cans and textiles to one of these sites.”

Insp Ian Stubbs added: “We are concerned about traffic congestion around Blackstock Road recycling centre where people have been known to queue from as early as 9.20am, when the site doesn’t open until 10am.

“We would ask those wishing to use the site should arrive after the site has opened as queuing on the road creates hazardous driving conditions for other road users.”
