MARKETS bosses are hoping a new map and guide will help persuade tourists to flock to Doncaster to do their shopping.
The leaflet, which has been produced by Doncaster Council, will be available at tourist information centres, bus and train stations, museums and tourist attractions across the region in places like York and Hull.
In Doncaster, the guides are available from market stalls, shops and council reception areas across the town centre.
The guide includes information for visitors to the markets and residents alike.
It shows the different indoor and outdoor market areas and the map is intended to help shoppers to make the most of the hundreds of shops, stalls and stands which are available.
Peter Davies, Mayor of Doncaster, and the markets’ new mascot Louis the Lion joined forces to launch the guide in front of a fruit stall.
Mr Davies said: “Tourism is important to Doncaster’s economy and our historic markets are a key visitor attraction. I think we’ve been too modest about our markets until recently.
“We want to spread the word that Doncaster markets make a great family day trip.
“The leaflet looks really good.
“I’m sure it will attract shoppers from far and wide to what are now officially the best markets in Britain.”
