SOUTH Yorkshire’s stores are among the best in the region - and Meadowhall is the fourth best retail centre in the country, according to a national survey of shopping centres.
According to guide ‘Going Shopping 2011 - The Definitive Guide to Shopping Centres’, which ranks centres according to footfall, size, number and type of shops and facilities available, Meadowhall is the best shopping centre in Yorkshire and the Humber, followed by Frenchgate, Doncaster, which was second.
Meadowhall is ranked behind Westfield, London, the Metro Centre, Gateshead, and Bluewater, in Dartford, Kent, which came top.
Some 32 shopping centres from around Yorkshire and the Humber featured in the national top 500.
Trevor Wood, senior partner of guide compilers Trevor Wood Associates, said: “There are almost 32,000 retail units within the 500 leading schemes, and some 24,000 are occupied by major retailers or groups with turnovers in excess of £3m per annum.”
He said since the last survey was carried out, budget brands and the mobile phone sector have undertaken the most expansion overall.
