One of Sheffield’s leading restaurateurs and a key figure in the ongoing redevelopment of the city have been honoured by Sheffield Hallam University.

David Baldwin, owner of the Baldwin’s Omega restaurant and banqueting venue, Brincliffe Edge, was awarded an honorary doctorate for his services to the restaurant industry and his charity work, which has seen him raise hundreds of thousands of pounds for a variety of good causes.

James Newman, chairman of the Sheffield Local Enterprise Partnership and a former Master Cutler, also received the honour for his services to business and enterprise in Yorkshire and Humberside.

Mr Baldwin, aged 72, said: “I can’t tell you how chuffed I am. It makes failing the 11-plus pale into insignificance.”
