Tata Steel has been named as one of Yorkshire and Humberside’s best apprenticeship employers in the regional final of the National Apprenticeship Awards 2014.

It fought off tough competition to be announced as winner of the BAE Systems Large Employer of the Year.

Tony Goddard, training manager at Tata Steel, said: “This award is something we’re really proud of. Many of our senior management team have come through the apprenticeship route and the success of our programme has seen retention increase to 98 per cent in the last five years.”

Sheffield’s Resolve IT Solutions was highly commended in the Medium Employer of the Year category, sponsored by Nuclear Decommissioning Site Licence Companies.

Boss Andrew Seaton said: “We’re chuffed to bits, especially since it’s the second year in a row.”

Highly commended entries and winners were announced at a ceremony in Leeds. The winners go through to a national final on November 13 in Birmingham.
