Hall-Fast started trading from a home office in August 2006 with £5,000 start-up capital and the business remains self-financed from profits to this day.
The initial focus was to supply specialist fasteners to the UK automotive sector, customers included Bentley, Aston Martin, Lotus, Jaguar, Caterpillar and JCB.
Achieving ISO9001 quality accreditation enabled the Mansfield-based firm to supply many other sectors resulting in rapid growth.
Today Hall-Fast provides more than 100,000 products including workwear, tools, personal protection equipment, access and handling equipment to sectors including manufacturing, engineering, healthcare and the public sector.
Growth has been based on the successful implementation of new products and a carefully executed export strategy as well as investing in employees and its website.
When three of the firm’s biggest customers went into administration in January 2009, it acted quickly.
With the help of UKTI it identified new overseas markets and launched product ranges into them.
Since then it has sold into 76 countries – a testament to its on-line marketing and ability to secure repeat orders by providing excellent customer service and delivery speed.
Hall-Fast continues to work extensively with UKTI, Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce and marketing specialists to refine its approach.
In June last year the Government published its Strategy for the Information Economy and Hall-Fast was used as an example of how a business can grow using the power of the internet, raising the firm’s profile.
