Transport officials are considering whether to provide a subsidised bus service to replace a journey being axed because it is no longer commercially viable.
South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive and Derbyshire County Council are investigating whether alternatives can be provided for the 252 which runs from Eckington, through Ridgeway, Gleadless and Heeley, to the city centre.
The service is being cut by operator TM Travel from September, but passengers are unhappy about losing the service.
Audrey Nuttall, of Gleadless, said: “TM Travel say it is not financial viable to keep running the service, but do they realise they are stranding people who are workers, retired people and the disabled?”
Joyce Millington, who works at Bell and Buxton Solicitors on High Street, Sheffield city centre, said: “Stopping the service is going to cause distress to everyone who relies on it.”
■ A public meeting to discuss the issue is at Marsh Lane community centre from 7.30pm on Wednesday.
