Sheffield College engineering students were given an exclusive insight into careers in the UK’s largest manufacturing sector - when they visited a soft drinks factory.
A group of 12 students visited Princes’ plant in Bradford to see how plastic bottles are created through moulding, cooling and thermosetting.
They also got to hear about the industry’s new degree - an MEng in food engineering, available at Sheffield Hallam University and supported by over 40 top UK food and drink manufacturers including Princes.
The visit was part of a drive to recruit students onto the degree, which has been designed to create mechanical engineers with the skills most sought after by the industry.
Tutor Shabir Nazir said: “Seeing the production challenge first hand has provided the students with a valuable insight into food and drink manufacturing ‘in action’.”
