Sheffield insurance broker IFM Insurance is urging businesses in South Yorkshire to be more vigilant, even though recorded crime in the area has fallen for the sixth year running.
The firm says crime against business increased by three per cent in the last year, according to new research by insurer AXA.
Incidences of burglary and metal theft have soared, up by 24 per cent in the case of metal theft.
IFM Insurance managing director David Biggs said: “This latest research should act as a stark warning for small businesses in Sheffield to take extra precautions to keep their business safe.
“Whilst South Yorkshire appears to be making headway against the levels of crime, uncertain economic conditions will continue to present small businesses as an easy target.”
