Business leaders and council chiefs don’t often get a good press so it is always nice to write something positive about people who have such influence over our lives.
News that a High Speed Rail College will be based in Doncaster is to be heartily welcomed.

The college, set to open in 2017, is the first concrete sign that HS2 is happening – and offers a taste of the potential benefits.
This wasn’t a decision that was handed to the town on a plate.
Doncaster beat off competition from York and Leeds, Derby and Manchester with a bid put together by business leaders and council chiefs.
Well done to all involved because the Government says HS2 will create up to 2,000 apprenticeships and employ 25,000 people during construction.
The line itself could lead to an additional 400,000 jobs, it is claimed.
Doncaster, and the Sheffield city region as a whole, will now be right at the heart of the project.
The completion date – scheduled for the 2030s – may seem a long way off but for our children and their children it will be a great addition to the nation’s infrastructure.
And the college means the benefits begin sooner than we could have hoped for.
