Steel giant Tata and global mechanical seal technology specialist AESSEAL have been named among the sponsors when Yorkshire’s International Business Convention comes to Rotherham, next year.
Stafforce Recruitment, whose founder, Nick Cragg, played a key part in bringing the event to the Magna Science Adventure Centre, and social housing maintenance specialist Morrison will also sponsor the Convention, along with Rotherham Investment and Development Office.
Mr Cragg said: “I find the event most inspirational and I am absolutely delighted we are going to be bringing the convention to the Sheffield City Region.”
Past headline speakers at the Convention have included astronaut and first man on the moon, Neil Armstrong, former US president Bill Clinton and former Soviet Premier Mikhail Gorbachev, the father of the Internet, Sir Tim Berners-Lee and Polish Solidarity movement leader Lech Walesa.
Headline speakers for this year’s event have yet to be named, however, former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, innovator and entrepreneur Sir James Dyson and London Olympics chief Lord Coe are understood to be among the possibles.
Organisers have confirmed that TV presenter and former amateur jockey, Clare Balding, will compère the event. Other speakers are likely to be Tim Smit, who set up the Eden project as an ecological visitor attraction in Cornwall and is now pursuing a similar scheme in China, and author, adventurer and charity fundraiser Rosie Swale-Pope.
Mrs Swale-Pope successfully completed a five-year, self-supported, around-the- world run, facing a host of challenges, while raising £250,000 for charity.
