TWO South Yorkshire firms have joined forces to create the ultimate in comfort for overnight coach travellers.

Coachbuilder Plaxton Anston, from Sheffield, and Doncaster-based automotive heating and cooling specialist Webasto have combined to create the new overnight MegaSleeper, which will be run by Stagecoach and will take 24 passengers from Glasgow to London in eight hours.

Passengers will have their own seat and sleeping accommodation and facilities on the articulated coaches, which will also offer refreshments, free wi-fi and an on-board toilet.

Plaxton Anston’s general manager, Dave Hutton, worked closely with Stagecoach’s technical engineer Adrian Havlin to develop the MegaSleeper concept.

Mr Hutton said: “The articulated coaches provide the perfect basis to include seating and overnight sleeping space.

“Maintaining a comfortable interior temperature en-route was a particular concern, which is why we both agreed on specifying heating systems from Webasto.

“As the acknowledged market leaders we know we can rely on both their products and their service support.”
