A South Yorkshire regeneration project has won a top award at the national Solar Power Portal Awards 2014.
The Coalfields Regeneration Trust, which seeks to bring new prosperity to former pit communities, was announced as UK winner of the Community Installation category.
The trust’s community sustainable energy programme has generated 1.3 million kWh of electricity through solar power - comparable to 320 times the power consumption for the average residential house over a year.
Andy Lock from the Trust said: “All of the work that we do is to benefit of coalfield communities and to win this award really champions our efforts and the success that we have had.
“The aim of our programmes is to leave a lasting and positive legacy and to receive national recognition reiterates the significance of the impact that we are making.”
