SHEFFIELD Central MP Paul Blomfield was guest of honour at the launch of a new group representing the area’s start-up businesses.
The Federation of Small Businesses Yorkshire Enterprise Club will work with other organisations to deliver business start-up support, mentoring, seminars and networking opportunities.
The event to launch the club was held at Sheffield City College, Granville Road, yesterday.
Mr Blomfield said: “Small businesses and entrepreneurs play a vital role in the UK economy, they are the key generators of employment and income and they are drivers of innovation and growth. In South Yorkshire, 95 per cent of our 38,000 businesses have fewer than 50 staff.”
He added: “At no time are small businesses more important to our economy than when we are in recession. We need Government action to ensure small businesses can borrow the money they need.”
