Two South Yorkshire sausage makers are simply sizzling after being shortlisted in a real banger of a competition.
After an intense day of sausage sampling, a team of leading industry experts awarded both Norton-based Moss Valley Fine Meats and Underwood Meat Company from Rotherham places at the BPEX Foodservice Pork Sausage of the Year grand finale – and a chance of winning the Overall Champion title for 2013.
Moss Valley Fine Meats walked away with two gold awards and one silver in the competition which recognises and rewards the very best bangers served in pubs, restaurants, hotels and canteens across the country.
Moss Valley is run by pig farmers Stephen and Karen Thompson, of Povey Farm, off Lightwood Lane, Norton.
Their breakfast sausage and Cumberland sausage scored highly on taste, texture and appearance and earned them the gold awards. The breakfast sausage was then selected as one of the top tasting of the day.
Underwood Meat Company Ltd was awarded four gold awards, one silver and two bronze awards.
Its pork and chorizo sausage and pork and tomato sausage wowed the judges to take gold, with the pork and chorizo sausage going forward to the grand finale.
