Employees at Rotherham-based Solaglas Installation have notched up a series of successes in the GLASS Charter Awards, run by South Yorkshire-based British Glass.

Health, safety and environment manager Jon Cornforth was named Health and Safety Professional of the Year at the presentation ceremony for the awards, which recognise and reward organisations and individuals who make exceptional efforts to improve health and safety.

Operations director Tim Barnes was highly commended in the Health and Safety Director of the Year category.

Meanwhile, HR manager Kaye Stevens was highly commended for Solaglas Installation’s health initiative which saw the introduction of a drug and alcohol policy, which has resulted in an approach from the British Police Federation, which wants the company to present the details of the programme to its teams.

Tim Barnes praised Jon Cornforth for his ability to foster a culture within the business that has enabled all members of staff to get involved and make the workplace a safer place.

“He has done this with an unrivalled infectious enthusiasm. He has secured support from the whole of the management team which has enabled the communication and dissemination of information in a simple and meaningful way,” said Mr Barnes.

n Earlier this year Saint-Gobain subsidiary Solaglass moved from Hellaby to a new headquarters for its Installations business at Brookfields Park in the Dearne Valley.
