SHE’s the new big cheese in Tickhill.

After years of success selling cheese and other gastronomic treats from her delicatessen in Bawtry, Lesley Cox has moved a couple of miles along the A631 to Tickhill for her new venture.

And lovers of fine fromage have already sought her out - with one customer placing an order for a wedding cake made of cheese.

Lesley ran a delicatessen store in Dower House Square at Bawtry for eight years before she decided to close the doors for the final time and relocate to new premises in Castlegate, Tickhill.

She is hoping to build on her past good taste record - during her time in Bawtry her shop appeared in the list of the top 50 cheese shops in the UK.

Lesley, who is married to Richard, has brought along her trusty right hand assistant Kay Bradley who has worked with her for the past five years.

Deli 28 occupies one of the two newly-built shops that stand on the site in Castlegate that was occupied by the former library building.

Lesley said: “I am delighted to be here in Tickhill in this brand new shop.

“All the fittings have been specially made and me and my dad worked very hard to make sure that everything was ready for opening day.”

Lesley’s dad is well known local GP Geoffrey Cox who before his retirement was based in the health centre in Bawtry, and is the pianist with Tickhill Male Voice Choir.

Her mum, Jean Cox, is a magistrate and a former Mayor of Bawtry, who has served on the Town Council for many years.

Lesley added: “I have always liked Tickhill and I am delighted to be in business here.

“I am very pleased to say that many of my old customers have stayed with me and we have attracted lots of new ones who have been really friendly and welcomed us to the town.

“We offer fine foods from around the world along with products that are sourced locally and food that is freshly prepared.

“We cater for the needs of everyone. One of the most unusual requests that we have already been able to fulfil was for a three-tier wedding cake made entirely of cheese.”

Lesley has established her www.deli28.co.uk website. She is on 01302 618340.
