A Sheffield-based IT firm has scooped a national award for designing a new app that helps eradicate administrative errors in the legal profession.
Rebmark Legal Solutions picked up the Software Innovation of the Year Award at the Digital Entrepreneur Awards for its piCalculator app.
The tool is used by solicitors and barristers in the personal injury and clinical negligence sector to help them compile ‘schedules of loss’ - documents setting out how much a client wants a tribunal to award them if they win their claim.
The company said the unique software ‘all but removes the risk of calculation errors.’
Mark Hewitt, managing director of Rebmark Legal Solutions, said: “It’s fantastic to be recognised at a national awards like this, it really means a lot.
“It’s also great to be recognised outside of our normal sector, legal, and in the wider digital sphere.
“The inspiration for the piCalculator came from my sister, who’s a clinical negligence partner, and the innovation came from her.
“It makes a complicated calculation process much simpler.”
The firm beat off strong competition from Egress Software Technologies and Valuechain.com to scoop the award.
Around 300 guests attended the ceremony at the Palace Hotel in Manchester.
Lawrence Jones, a judge and chief executive officer of headline sponsor cloud-computing firm UKFast, said: “Rebmark have really raised the bar with their app.
“It’s so simple and functional and solves a real industry problem.”
