There is no danger of Sheffield going off the rails when it comes to train travel.
Operator East Midlands Trains is celebrating double success after winning praise for safety standards and seeing the city’s station highly commended at annual industry awards.
The approach the company, alongside its partners, Network Rail, the Samaritans, British Transport Police and ASLEF takes to ‘taking ownership of suicide on our railway’ was also highlighted as the best in the country.
Campaigns, training and publications raising awareness on the issue impressed judges, while Sheffield railway station narrowly missed out on being crowned best large station in the country at the National Rail Awards.
David Horne, managing director of East Midlands Trains, said: “I am delighted that the efforts of our team have been recognised in what is such a crucial area of work.”
