Sheffield’s Vertebrate Publishing has won a literary award for an acclaimed book about British climber Alex MacIntyre, who died on a climbing expedition in 1982, aged just 28.

One Day As A Tiger, written by mountaineer John Porter, won the Grand Prize at the 2014 Banff Mountain Book Festival.

Vertebrate’s publishing manager John Coefield said: “This news has blown us away. Winning any award at Banff is a big deal, but to win the Grand Prize is a tremendous achievement – we’re very proud to be the publisher of One Day As A Tiger. Our congratulations to John on both awards he has won at Banff, and for writing such an incredible book.”

Revelations, the autobiography of Sheffield climber Jerry Moffatt, won the Grand Prize in 2009.
