Sheffield mum Julie Brookes is leaving behind a successful 25-year career working as a personal assistant to build her own domestic cleaning and homecare business.

The 48-year-old, who lives in Stannington with her partner and two teenage sons, recently launched Bright & Beautiful Sheffield Hallam in which she manages a team of cleaners to deliver housekeeping services in properties across the city.

The launch of the firm is a major life change for Julie, after she left a long career working as a senior personal assistant within the newspaper industry for 17 years and then seven years supporting a businessman to run his seven companies.

But Julie told how she was ready for a new challenge.

She said: “I can’t quite decide if my 25 years organising various businesses as a PA or my years as a mum to two teenage boys best qualifies me to launch a cleaning business!

“I’ve enjoyed a great career but now I want to do something that will really put me at the helm and I’m really looking forward to delivering a great service for all our clients and managing and growing the business.

“I also love new challenges so the opportunity to be my own boss and bring a new, eco-friendly and ethical cleaning service to my local community is hugely exciting. We are here to help give the families of Sheffield their hugely important leisure time back by taking on all of those cleaning, tidying and ironing jobs that eat into their free time and weekends.”

She added: “There is no better feeling than coming home to a clean house, providing a sense of relief knowing the job has been done well.

“I am really excited to be able to offer this personal, high quality housekeeping service to clients locally.”

Services offered include cleaning, tidying and laundry.

Along with creating a number of new jobs, the company is also committed to eco-friendly practices.

Staff will be using non-toxic cleaning products and equipment which has a low carbon footprint.

The business will be focusing services in the Hallam, Crosspool, Ranmoor, Fullwood, Lodgemoor, Nether Green/HangingWater, Whirlowdale, Dore, Totley and Bradway areas.

Julie’s firm is a franchise of the Bright & Beautiful brand, an award-winning business model that was founded by entrepreneur Rachel Ray in 2007.

A busy working mum herself, Rachel spotted a gap in the market for a domestic cleaning company that provided full fair employment rights for its team, non-toxic cleaning products and high-level housekeeping services for its clients.

Since then the business has grown from strength to strength with more than 50 franchisees around the UK, employing carefully vetted professional housekeepers and servicing thousands of clients.

The business was recognized as a finalist in the British Franchise Association Franchisor of the Year Awards last year.

Bright & Beautiful also took home the ‘Best Home Based Business of the Year’ trophy at the Barclays Women in Business Awards in 2013.
