A former school cook from Sheffield has won a date with a celebrity chef after designing a burger recipe for his city restaurant.

Tracey Berrisford, of Stannington, designed The Alps Burger for Marco Pierre White’s New York Italian restaurant, at West Bar.

The burger – a peppered beef steak burger topped with Swiss cheese, caramelised onion, mushroom and steak sauce – made the restaurant’s menu of shortlisted entrants’ burgers served throughout October.

The 37-year-old mum won after her burger proved most popular with diners.

Tracey said: “I am so excited to have won Marco’s burger competition.

“I love cooking and Marco Pierre White has always been an inspiration to me in the kitchen, so to be selected to meet him in real life for creating my own recipe is amazing.”

Restaurant staff also submitted their own burgers with chef de partie Vicky Wainwright taking top prize with her Steel City Burger.

Peter Hendry, general manager at Marco’s New York Italian, said: “We were really impressed by the standard of entries we received for our Burger Off competition – we clearly have a lot of budding burger chefs among our diners.

“However, Tracey’s recipe was the one that really wowed our customers, alongside Vicky’s Steel City Burger, and we’re delighted to present Tracey with her prize of meeting the man himself, Marco Pierre White, when he next comes to town.”
