Australian-owned law firm Slater & Gordon is acquiring a second firm with operations in Sheffield.

The company, which is listed on the Australian stock market and has offices in the Fountain Precinct, is buying John Pickering and Partners, which has offices in the Aizlewood Business Centre.

Pickering is one of the UK’s largest law firms specialising in representing clients with asbestos-related and industrial diseases.

The deal follows Slater & Gordon’s acquisition last year of Russell Jones & Walker, whose chief executive, Neil Kinsella, now heads Slater & Gordon’s UK operations.

More recently the firm also acquired Fentons Solicitors, Taylors Vinters’ personal Injury practice and Goodmans Law.

Neil Kinsella said: “We believe John Pickering and Partners is an ideal partner to advance our plans for strategic growth and to boost our presence in the UK.

“The expansion of our personal injury team will see the addition of a team with an excellent reputation as experienced defenders of the rights of asbestos disease sufferers for compensation.”
