Sheffield has been rated one of the cheapest student cities in a study of living costs at some of the UK’s top universities.

Figures show the lowest price for renting accommodation while studying at The University of Sheffield is £55.75 per week - well below the national average of £75.25 and a steal when compared with Cambridge which topped the table at £97.25.

The study, which also examined cost of tuition, average price of a pint and tuition fees, was carried out by independent estate agent Haart.

Paul Smith, chief executive of the firm, said: “Many canny parents are taking advantage of the strong rental markets by buying a home where their children are studying and letting the property to their offspring and their friends.”
