SHEFFIELD’S roads will be brought up to scratch after the Government today confirmed a £1.2 billion Private Finance Initiative deal for resurfacing, new street lights and maintenance over the next 25 years will go ahead.
Transport Minister Norman Baker was in Sheffield to make the long-awaited announcement. Work will start in Spring 2012.
He also revealed the city will receive £1.4 million of extra cash for urgent pothole repairs and £150,000 towards further feasibility work towards plans for unique tram-trains to run on Supertram and railway tracks linking Sheffield and Rotherham.
