A fast growing Sheffield furniture shop has hired seven staff this year and nearly doubled turnover in two years due to rising demand for designer gear.

Nest.co.uk has a strict policy of stocking design originals and only a handful of its 15,000 products are flatpack. A current bestseller is the range of IC lights by Italian firm Flos - which start at £233.

The firm employs 26 and operates out of a showroom on Parkway Rise, off the Parkway, and a warehouse on Parkwood Business Park, off Penistone Road.

Some 50 per cent of sales are through its website Nest.co.uk.

Turnover is up from £1.9m in 2013 to £3.4m today.

The firm was established in 2001 by Christian Hawley but business has boomed in the last three years due to rising interest in design, according to marketing and operations director Toni Sanderson.

She said: “It started in a shop on Ecclesall Road - Living Rooms - which became Nest after a couple of years. The firmed moved to its current base in 2008 but in the last few years we have seen a big increase in sales due to more awareness of design in general and a move away from a throw away culture for furniture.”

The firm also supplies the business sector and offers a fitting out service for hotels, cafes, galleries and restaurants - it was behind the makeover of the Millennium Gallery in Sheffield city centre.

It has also fitted out three show flats at Park Hill for Urban Splash.

Nest has just launched an interior design service and has plans to launch a ‘white glove’ delivery and installation service.

The firm shifts 450 orders a month.

Toni added: “We are proud and happy to be based in Sheffield.

“We try to link up with the design community and have sponsored Design Week and we intend to stay committed to the city.”

The recruits include two warehouse staff, a head office administrator, a retails sales consultant and a commercial support assistant.
