Talented Sheffield students picked up a string of awards at a bash to celebrate the hard work of the next generation of entrepreneurs.

Dozens of youngsters from schools and colleges across the region gathered at the Castle Park Conference Venue in Doncaster for the Young Enterprise Company Programme Awards.

Students from Sheffield High School took home four of the seven awards last Wednesday, including the top prize for ‘Best Company’.

The judges were impressed with the students for setting up their own company, called Rewire, which sells mobile phone accessories such as headphones which don’t get tangled.

The group also won in the ‘Teamwork’, ‘Marketing Award’ and ‘Financial Management’ categories.

UCan Cook AR from Doncaster College were named as runners up in the ‘Best Company’ category and won the ’Innovation Award’.

Dearne Valley College students won the ‘Environmental Award’ and ‘Best Presentation’ for their company The Seasonal Sensations.

Meryl White, chair of award organisers Young Enterprise South Yorkshire Board, said: “Every year we are amazed by the standard of businesses set up and managed by these groups of young people.

“We have been extremely impressed by the creative thought processes and the range of successful businesses that have been set up.

“Our huge thanks go to all the businesses and volunteers in South Yorkshire who have been involved with Young Enterprise and have given their time and financial support.”

Rewire will now compete in the regional finals in Harrogate on June 16 to try and win a place in the national finals.
