Sheffield City Region firms urged to have their say over skills shortages

The ongoing study which is being conducted by Sheffield City Region chambers of commerce and funded by the Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP), has revealed that many employers are worried about finding skilled staff.

The Sheffield City Region Quarterly Economic Survey for quarter two aims to find out the types of problems businesses are experiencing and what incentives they are using to recruit and retain their workforce.

Dan Fell, the chief executive of Doncaster Chamber, said: “Businesses are reporting that the region’s skills challenges are feeling more and more acute. The chambers, LEP and other regional partners are already doing a lot to address the region’s skills challenges but this survey helps to provide further evidence about what specific challenges businesses are facing and what measures can be put in place to relieve the pressure.”

The survey, sponsored by The Source, is a quick and easy way for firms to help shape policy.

The Quarterly Economic Survey for Q2 2017 runs until June 12.

The results will be presented at a free quarterly economic survey breakfast on Tuesday July 18 at The Source, Meadowhall, alongside a keynote speech on the economy by Alistair Cunningham, of the Bank of England, and a panel discussion chaired by Greg Wright, the deputy business editor of The Yorkshire Post, which will analyse recruitment issues.
