The Lord Mayor of the City of London will visit Sheffield tomorrow to back the city’s growing potential for financial and professional services.
Alderman the Lord Mountevans will meet business leaders in the city region as part of a visit organised by the Company of Cutlers.
He will tour Sheffield University’s Factory of the Future and Castings Technology International before hosting a round table briefing at the Innovation Technology Centre on the Advanced Manufacturing Park.
He said: “As a city, Sheffield has many of the key building blocks required to build large financial centre, including a highly skilled and educated workforce.
“Already, legal services are increasingly moving to Sheffield, and it is important for us at the City of London to continue to encourage this growth in professional services to drive future prosperity and job creation.
“Sheffield is known throughout the country, and indeed the world, for the quality of its engineering and manufacturing and continuing to invest in modern manufacturing techniques, aided by London, the world’s leading financial centre, will be essential in maintaining this success.
“I am particularly excited by the steps being taken by Sheffield to encourage the growth of fintech and tech, and the launch of the Cloudcity will help drive innovation and growth.”
Lord Mountevans is the 688th Lord Mayor in a post that dates back centuries.
Master Cutler Craig McKay said: “Whilst this is an occasion to showcase our strengths in making and manufacturing it is also a great opportunity to promote the concept of ‘northshoring’.”
