But a win means more than just a good time, a morale boost, a higher profile and a potential increase in business. Victors also go through to the City Region Business Awards in July.

The event on Thursday December 1 is at Ponds Forge International Sports Centre in Sheffield again.

Look North legend Harry Gration has agreed to host again after doing such a great job in 2015.

Elevation Recruitment Group returns as headline sponsor this year, as do category sponsors Wake Smith, Lupton Fawcett Denison Till, Doncaster Sheffield Airport, Shorts Accountants, Learning Unlimited and Meadowhall. Other sponsors include Emirates Airline, Pure Awards Creative and web design firm Rare.

Richard Wright, Chamber executive director, said: “The Sheffield Business Awards have a reputation of being the biggest Christmas party of the year. And everybody does have a great time!

“Hotly contested and with over 140 applications last year, these are definitely the ones to win.

“Past winners have gone on to great things including national awards - they are great adverts for the city.

“Get your entry in and collect your prize in front of over 700 people.”

Organised by Sheffield Chamber and The Star, the awards are open to any business with an ‘S’ postcode. They are judged by an independent panel. New this year is a Special Recognition Award which is open to any business, individual, charity, scheme or project that has significantly contributed to the Sheffield economy.

Last year a record 142 applications were received, with more than 30 for the Small Business of the Year award.
