Numerous Sheffield bus services are facing the axe and other changes are planned as part of major network changes.

South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive and operators First and Stagecoach are proposing the shake-up partly due to low passenger numbers on some routes.

But transport chiefs said that, overall, passenger numbers have increased. Services to be axed include evening and Sunday journeys.

Proposed service changes are expected to be implemented from October 27.

David Young, SYPTE interim deputy director general, said: “Customer satisfaction and punctuality of the services on the city’s bus network have significantly improved and there are 5.8 per cent more adult fare paying passengers travelling than this time last year.”

Passengers are urged to comment on the changes:

■ 11/12 (City – Stannington/Hall Park Head): To be linked with 81 (City – Bents Green) and 85 (City – Millhouses) to introduce new cross city services, 80 (Stannington –Millhouses) and 81 (Hall Park Head – Bents Green).

■ 13/13a (City – High Green): Replaced by restored 66/66A linking Sheffield Interchange with Fox Hill, High Green, Chapeltown and Rotherham. City to Hillsborough and Fox Hill section covered by 37/38.
