A Sheffield barber shop has proved it is a cut above the rest after winning The Star’s coveted Salon of the Year title.
Ryan Hair, in Shiregreen, beat off stiff competition from salons across the region to be named the best in the business.
Owner Ryan Denton said his four-strong team were delighted to scoop the accolade.
He said: “It is fantastic to have won and to get some recognition. A big thanks to everyone who voted for us.”
The premises on Hatfield House Lane has been a barber shop for decades, with Ryan taking over 11 years ago.
He believes offering a service to rival some of the biggest salons in the city at low prices has been key to its success – along with attracting generations of the same family.
He said: “We always try our best in everything we do.
“We have all worked in big salons around Sheffield and I have worked on Ecclesall Road, so customers are getting stylists who have worked in the top salons, but we only charge £7.50 for a haircut.
“We always try to offer a personal service and like to remember people’s names.
“We have generations of the same family as customers – grandparents and parents coming in and then they bring in their children and grandchildren.”
But it is not just in the local area where Ryan and his team are known.
The shop’s promotional T-shirts and hoodies are worn by customers around the world.
Ryan said: “They started off as a bit of advertising thing, but now on the Ryan Hair Instagram page there is a competition between customers about who can have their picture taken furthest away with a T-shirt or hoodie on or who can take the most outrageous photograph with one on.
“We’ve had someone doing a parachute jump in Australia wearing one.”
Ryan’s team is currently made up of four stylists, including himself, but he is keen to expand and is looking for a full-time stylist to join the business.
Ryan Hair is open weekdays from 9am to 5.30pm and on Saturdays from 8am to 3pm.
