Manufacturing businesses could be more at risk from fraudsters than companies in other sectors, according to a Sheffield-based debt collection, credit management and business finance expert.

The warning comes from Laurie Beagle, divisional director of P&A Receivables, who is organising a free fraud prevention seminar in Sheffield next month as part of the Global Manufacturing Festival: Sheffield event.

“Manufacturing companies are vulnerable because they deal with products rather than services. Fraudsters can more easily shift products and will have targeted a business where they know there is a market for those products,” says Mr Beagle.

Speakers at the seminar will include Simon Cham, fromNew Scotland Yard’s Economic and Specialist Crime Directorate, Ben Lowens, a partner at lawyers Addleshaw Goddard and Conway Hotchkiss, from P&A’s Inspected and Protected division, who will be providing practical tips on how businesses can protect themselves from fraud.
