Mount St Mary’s College is aiming to increase its conference and events business after appointing Paul Scott as its new conference manager.

Mr Scott has worked at the school, on the border of South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire, for more than 21 years and was its director of sport and marketing and development.

His appointment follows the recent publication of report by Britain for Events that revealed the country’s event sector is worth £36 billion.

“My role will involve the development, promotion and expansion of the Mount for conferences, courses and residential lettings, the optimisation of facility hire, generation of new income streams, management of the alumni relations and fundraising activities for major capital projects and donations,” he said.

Mount St Mary’s facilities include a 400-seat theatre, meeting rooms, dining facilities, hotel-style en suite accommodation, a heated indoor swimming pool and leisure centre, an all-weather athletics track, rugby, football, cricket and hockey pitches and a pavilion for dinners, christenings, weddings and parties.

Recent events staged at Mount St Mary’s include the British Universities Championships, GB Rugby League Academy trials and England Rounders sessions.
