A WOMAN has ditched her career as a school manager to bring a much needed fashion fix to a South Yorkshire town.

Joan Wood, aged 48, has opened Absolute boutique in Wath-on-Dearne, inspired by her husband who runs a DIY shop.

She had worked for nine years in schools before deciding that working for yourself was a fantastic and rewarding thing to do.

Joan said: “Setting up on your own can be quite a daunting prospect but I was able to draw on my extensive business experience and that of my husband.

“Business coach Julia Melia from the Rotherham Enterprise Project has also been able to provide some useful contacts and kept me informed of courses they are running for anyone in my situation.”

Rachel Clark, from Rotherham Investment and Development Office, said: “Joan is a very inspiring lady. Walking away from a full time job to set up her own business was a brave move but she is really enjoying herself.”
