Profits have fallen for the Sheffield City Region’s Top 100 SMEs, but sales and jobs are up according to the latest survey carried out by leading local independent accountants Barber Harrison & Platt and Star Business.

Comparing companies that made it into 2010’s Top 100 and those in this year’s listing, shows total profits have fallen from £116 million to £105 million, while sales rose from £1,177 million to £1,287 million and employment is up from 8,192 to 8, 572.

But if you compare the performance of the companies in this year’s Top 100, which includes 48 newcomers, with the performance of those same companies in 2010, profits have risen by 62 per cent from £64.5 million, while turnover has risen by 14 per cent from £1,130 million and jobs have increased by 5 per cent from 8,196.
