SteelPhalt, the Rotherham-based road surfaces specialist, is marking the start of its 50th year in business with a £40,000 investment in expanding its laboratory and learning centre.
The laboratory expansion gives the company, which uses slag from steelmaking to make road surfacing materials, the opportunity to increase its product development work.
It will also allow for even higher levels of product screening and quality assurance.
Senior operations manager Martin Gray said: “This amount of investment in both the laboratory and the learning hub really does make our site a centre of excellence, building on the company’s vast pool of expertise and experience.
“We are now bringing in people from as far afield as Glasgow and South Wales for vital training in industry best practice as well as support and development.”
SteelPhalt’s research has resulted in products that extend the time between resurfacing, stop roads deforming under repeated heavy loads and result in high resistance to skidding.
