A HISTORIC former police station which has become a popular Italian restaurant is going under the hammer tomorrow.
The Grade II listed Park Lodge building, on Archer Road, Millhouses, is among the properties being sold by Blundells Auction House in an auction at Sheffield Park Hotel, Meadowhead.
Blundells describe the lodge, which dates from the 1890s and houses Marco@Milanos restaurant, as a ‘Victorian gem with a fascinating history’.
Lucy Crapper, property auctioneer at Blundells Auction House, pictured below, described Park Lodge as “one of Sheffield’s most unique and recognisable buildings”.
She added: “We are delighted that we have been instructed to sell this building, it’s a privilege.
“We have had keen interest from not only local buyers but also from buyers around the UK. We have successfully sold listed buildings and prestigious properties in the past but this is the most well-recognised and historically interesting building to date.”
Park Lodge was Abbeydale’s local police station but food lovers will also recognise it as a popular venue for a fine-dining experience.
Since 1998 the building has been occupied and let to Marco@Milanos, which has converted it into a 58-seater restaurant with bar areas, kitchens, cellars and staff areas on the first floor.
Outside, there is an alfresco dining area. Some of the original police cells and period features have been restored during its history and are incorporated into the building, adding an unusual twist for diners.
Marco@Milanos will be a permanent fixture at Park Lodge until at least 2023 after a new tenancy agreement was signed recently generating £28,500 per annum. The building, which has views of Millhouses Park and the nearby cricket pitch, has a guide price of £350,000-plus.
The auction takes place on Tuesday, from 2pm.
