PLANS for a new McDonald’s restaurant are causing controversy in a Sheffield suburb.

A 179-signature petition and 15 letters of objection have been submitted to Sheffield Council against the proposals.

The plans, for a site between Aldi and The Sword Dancer, Handsworth Road, Handsworth, are recommended for approval by council officials.

Opponents are concerned about litter, extra traffic and noise from 24-hour opening.

Members of Sheffield Council’s city centre, south and east planning board are due to decide on the application on Monday.
