The price of property has fallen for the first time in 2014, down by 0.8 per cent, partly due to stricter mortgage rules, according to Rightmove.

But July has seen price falls in six of the last 10 years, with this drop largely reflecting a normal seasonal slowdown, it adds. It predicts prices will rise by eight per cent during 2014 as a whole.
