One of South Yorkshire’s top craft breweries has hailed ‘fantastic’ news that its pub has been named Yorkshire Pub of the Year by the Campaign for Real Ale.

Dave Hughes, of Barnsley’s Acorn Brewery, was delighted with the accolade for the Old No7 pub, in the town centre.

The venue is one of 16 regional winners which will now be considered for Camra’s national pub of the year award.

Mr Hughes said: “This is fantastic news. We took a big chance to invest in this pub when it had been abandoned by a national pub company and many other pubs were closing their doors.

“This accolade justifies all the blood, sweat and tears we endured to open the pub in what was really a cask ale desert.”
