A quartet of female entrepreneurs from South Yorkshire has won top accolades in the Barclays-Forward Ladies Women in Business Awards.

Barnsley businesswomen Melanie Oldham and Jane Robinson and previous award winners Julia Gash from Sheffield and Teresa Galley from Doncaster each topped categories.

Melanie Oldham won the Start up Business Woman award. Melanie, who gained her business experience working in a sandwich shop, hotel management, project management and IT, heads Bob’s Business, a cyber security company that uses animation and humour to help businesses develop a secure culture that minimises vulnerability and risk.

During the past year the company has doubled in size as the market for its services grows, despite a lack of understanding of most businesses, that employee behaviour is the biggest threat to an organisation.

Jane Robinson, a co-founder of leading UK laser cutting and engraving company Cutting Technologies, was named Manufacturing Business Woman.

Her company uses technologically advanced equipment to process metals, acrylics, wood, paper and other materials, tackling technically demanding and creative work, including making laser engraved panels to feature on the walls of a £24 million Manchester University development.

Julia Gash, founder of eco-friendly branded cloth bag manufacturer BIDBI, was named International Business Woman of the Year, in addition to being shortlisted in two other categories.

Her company has a team of 19, turns over £1.3 million and has developed new markets by creating a designer collection called Talented Totes, for which she has negotiated 60 new retail accounts and distribution agreements in the US, Canada and Japan.

Teresa Galley took the Property Business Woman of the Year title for the second year running.

She runs Galley Properties, which has a portfolio of homes to let, operates a lettings and property management company and has plans to launch an estate agency.
