The Kelham Island Tavern has been recognised by real ale lovers for its top tipples, first class service and excellent decor.

In its 11th win, the pub has been handed the title of ‘Local Pub of the Year’ by the Campaign for Real Ale.

Trevor Wraith, landlord at the tavern, said: “We’re really pleased to be recognised. People keep saying to me ‘Give someone else a chance’ but I keep telling them it’s not up to me!”

He added: “You have to have a passion for what you do.

“It’s all about having a quality product and the service that you give to customers.”

CAMRA picked 200 pubs across the country for the accolade.
