As Whitby’s fish and chip restaurant’s popularity grew, the business found itself facing an increasing problem.
The more people that went to the restaurant, the more waste material it was having to get rid of.
Restaurant manager Darren Richards says that initially, its bins weren’t being filled, but soon the company was filling 13 bins with rubbish each week.
With help from crusher manufacturer Agritel, Whitby’s has cut the number of general and paper collections it needs and has reduced waste disposal costs by 45 per cent.
Darren Richards says the savings will pay for the Agritel bin press the restaurant is using in just over a year and the company is poised to buy another one for its new restaurant in Doncaster.
