Cobra Sport Exhausts UK showed off its investment in research and development when it hosted a factory visit by Freemen of The Company of Cutlers in Hallamshire.
The firm, based on Surbiton Street, Attercliffe, has invested £50,000, including £20,000 in its R&D department, on machinery and upgrades over the last year.
Managing director Rachel Jarvis became a Freeman last year and is one of a growing band of businesswomen in the organisation, which aims to support and promote manufacturing in the Sheffield City Region.
The Company has 350 Freemen who must be senior executives or directors in a ‘relevant’ organisation.
Since taking over four years ago, Rachel, who owns the company with her brother Peter, has accelerated growth and the business is a leading manufacturer of stainless steel exhausts for sports and performance vehicles. The investment allows the firm to create performance exhausts for many of the new breed of high performance cars entering the market, including the latest Ford Focus RS.
Rachel said: “We were delighted to welcome the Freemen and have the opportunity to show them some of our latest innovations which are vital to keeping us at the forefront of our industry.”
She added: “I am very proud to be a Freeman and want to contribute to safeguarding the city’s reputation for being a centre of excellence for manufacturing and in particular do all I can to attract more females into the industry.”
Over the past six years turnover has risen by more than 50 per cent to £1m and staff from 11 to 20.
