PLANS for an educational activity centre on the site of the failed Earth Centre have been submitted to Doncaster Council town planners.

Bosses at Kingswood, the company which will be running the site, submitted the documents and also released their first artist’s impression of the layout of the proposed new facility.

When it opens, the development will be called the Dearne Valley Activity Centre.

Preliminary talks have already been held at consultation events in the Conisbrough area with residents.

Paul Gilbert, chief executive of Kingswood, said: “After discussing our plans with the local community, I’m pleased to confirm we are calling our new educational facility The Kingswood Dearne Valley Centre and have submitted our proposals for the new centre to Doncaster Council.”

The artist’s impression released by Kingswood shows how the company intends to create a multi-million pound flagship residential activity centre on the site.

The firm intends to retain and refurbish the site’s buildings as well as build accommodation units for visiting school pupils and teachers with a view to opening its doors next spring.

The Dearne Valley Activity Centre will feature an 11,000sq ft indoor activity and sports hall, classrooms for IT, field studies facilities and meeting rooms.

It will offer low height initiative exercises, a ropes park for team-building activities, and evening entertainment including indoor and outdoor amphitheatres and performing arts facilities for visiting groups.
