A new library, market-place and cinema are included in new plans for the upcoming Better Barnsley town centre redevelopment.
A planning application, submitted by the IBI Group this week, also calls for new landscaped public open space and the development of retail and leisure areas.
Coun Roy Miller said: “These ambitious plans will boost regeneration acting as a catalyst for further investment.
“We’re creating a vibrant, family-friendly town centre full of opportunity and potential. It will be warm and welcoming, with a high quality market, shops, leisure and cultural facilities.”
