Philip Turner is turning up the heat on his Sheffield-based oven cleaning business.
Mr Turner, aged 53, worked as an estimator for a shop fitting company, but had always dreamed of being his own boss.
When the recession bit, he took the plunge and opened a franchise of oven valeting business Ovenu, covering South Sheffield and North Derbyshire.
Last year he experienced 30 per cent growth in his business and averaged eight ovens a week.
“I decided that a strong franchise, rather than starting a new business from scratch, would be the best and most straightforward option,” said Mr Turner.
“The tried and tested support and strength of the network of franchisees is vitally important for anyone starting out in business, especially in tough economic times. The business is now going from strength to strength and I am delighted by its success.”
Steve’s ISO 9001 accredited business is one of more than 100 Ovenu franchises across the UK.
Ovenu founder Rik Hellewell said: “Even in difficult economic circumstances, this is proof positive that dedicated people can use our franchise model to create very successful small businesses.
“It also demonstrates that franchise holders come from a wide range of different backgrounds and can be straight from school or just a handful of years away from retirement.”
